Yamaha to launch R1 and MT-01 in India?

Yamaha YZF-R1The R1 has already been homologated and approved by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and sales expected to commence once the company receives the first lot of imports from YMI’s parent. Although no time has been specified for the imports, YMI’s CEO & Managing Director, Tomotaka Ishikawa said efforts are being made to introduce the bike at the earliest.

‘The marketing team at Yamaha Motor India had an aggressive target for the R1, but I cut that into half. These bikes are not meant for business but to create an image,’ Ishikawa said. He stopped short of committing any numbers, but said ‘it could be a few dozens.’
Do you what this means?

I know what it means... It means that mighty soon, a certain motorcyclist at large is gonna have a hundred and eighty three horses under his ass... :-D

...Although, the FZ1 would have made more sense than the MT 01. Especially since production of the latter has been stopped in Japan.

The Fizzer is the perfect blend of style, sportiness and practicality, and should fit right into the Indian motorcycling scenario. The cruiser engine based MT 01 doesn't excite me half as much...

This means that I need to start saving money for another bike ;-)

So it will be this year end, as mentioned by some Yam official in some news channel interview few days back? Also he mentioned the bikes will be priced from 5L onwards, wonder which 800+cc bike they will sell for 5L :-)

Any info if Honda and/or Suzuki are planing to follow Yamaha or still plan to fight out HH for market segment?

Finally, Yamaha has shut the mouths of those who thought they have no future here, including me! We knew they were coming, but when was the question.
But why the MT-01? Its costs 1.5times more than the R1.. ahh, the R1!

So the R1 is coming to India? Damn! Just last week I'd placed an order for my MV Agusta F4 CC. Guess the R1 will have to wait...

:-D

I like the news . I don't like my salary even more now :-(
These toys remain accessible only to the rich boys ....

But selling R1s is one thing - will Yamaha also provide service & spares network ? If not owners will have a white elephant sitting the the garage waiting for spares to arrive .
